Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of Canada

Tell us about your cause.

Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of Canada is a national, volunteer-based non-profit group committed bringing awareness to others about inflammatory bowel disease and to raising money to fund medical research to find the cure for Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis in Canada.

What kind of special event fundraising do you do to support your mission?

In March 2009, the Calgary Chapter held the Inaugural Black Gold Gala as one of its fundraisers. We used Dojiggy to advertise the web.

Walk us through the planning process.

A committee was formed from our current volunteer base, led by a young person Jennifer Wakeford. The theme Black Gold was thought to incorporate glamour while reminding us all of Calgary’s rich heritage. We were fortunate enough to host the event in a brand new oil & gas and transportation museum, before the facility was open to the public.

Did you reach out to local sponsors?

Yes, the committee was diligent in contacting their own personal connections as well, a large database was formed of local companies to send sponsorship requests to.

Did you do any advertising to get participants?

Yes, we advertised in local publications as well as to our current supporters via our monthly newsletter.

How did DoJiggy help with your planning?

DoJiggy provided us with a website to give people information, sponsors recognition, and an easy place to go online to purchase tickets securely.

Tell us about your success…How many participants? how much did you raise? Did you accomplish your goals?

In the end, we had over 165 attendees, and raised over $70,000. The event was very successful and we look forward to 2010!

Any advice to other organizations?

In spite of the economy, passion for the cause and dedicated volunteer service pays off.
